FERIADO – Berlinale Generation and Commercial Distribution in Germany

FERIADO (a coproduction between AbacaFilms, Luna Films, and Argentinean Cepa Audiovisual) will have its World Premiere at the Prestigious Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). Feriado, directed by  Diego Araujo becomes the first Ecuadorian movie to be officially selected by the Berlinale to compete in one of its sections: Generation. Here’s the Official Press Release.

Furthermore, GMFilms will distribute the film commercially in the German territory (Check out the following Variety Exclusive).

In late 2013 Berlin-based sales company M-Appeal acquired world sales rights to the movie. Earlier during the same year, FERIADO became one of the six Latin American movies selected for Ventana Sur’s Primer Corte (curated by Georges Goldenstern of Cannes Cinefondation). The movie has also been part of the selection for the 2013 Work in Progress sections at the Havana Film Festival and the Riviera Maya Film Festival, and won the Work in Progress award at the Festival de Cine Orquidea in Ecuador. In its development phase, FERIADO was awarded by the Tribeca Film Institute, and received support from Programa Ibermedia, CNCine Ecuador, the Latino Film Fund, Huelva Film Festival Coproduction Forum, FICValdivia’s AustraLab, Oaxaca Screenwriting Lab, and PUENTES Workshop.

The crew of FERIADO includes director of photography Magela Crosignani (RUTA DE LA LUNA, MOSQUITA y MARI), art director Roberto Frisone (CRÓNICAS, MONO CON GALLINAS), music composer Daniele Luppi (MALOS HÁBITOS). The main actors of the film are Juan Manuel Arregui and Andrés Paredes.

RUTA DE LA LUNA: Awards and Commercial Exhibition

During late 2013 RUTA DE LA LUNA won the following awards:
- Best Americas Feature Award – Oaxaca FilmFest
- Best Actor – Icaro Festival de Cine en Centroamérica
- Best Photography –  Icaro Festival de Cine en Centroamérica
- Best Sound – Icaro Festival de Cine en Centroamérica

In addition, RUTA DE LA LUNA is available in DVD.

Also, after touring through dozens of film festivals in four different continents, RUTA DE LA LUNA had its commercial premiere in Ecuador this October 4th, 2013. It became available in all movie complexes in Ecuador major cities: Cinemark, Multicines, Super Cines, Ocho y Medio, Flacso, MAAC Cines, Cinemática, Mis Cines, and Cineplex.

RUTA DE LA LUNA – Montreal World Film Festival

RUTA DE LA LUNA will have its International Premier in the “Focus on World Cinema” section of the renowned Montreal World Film Festival taking place August 23 – September 3, 2012.
The Montreal World Film Festival, founded in 1977, is one of Canada’s oldest international film festivals and the only competitive film festival in North America accredited by the FIAPF as a Class-A Film Festival.

Approximately 400,000 filmgoers attended the World Film Festival each year.

The screening dates for RUTA DE LA LUNA are the following:

  • Saturday August 25, 2012: Cinéma Quartier Latin 16, 14h30
  • Sunday August 26, 2012: Cinéma Quartier Latin 16, 19h50
  • Monday August 27, 2012: Cinéma Quartier Latin 16, 10h00

FERIADO – In Production

The shooting of FERIADO (by Diego Araujo) –a coproduction between Luna Films (Ecuador), AbacaFilms, and Cepa Audiovisual (Argentina)– started this August 2012. In its development stage, FERIADO received grants from international film funds such as Programa Ibermedia, CNCine Ecuador, and the Latino Film Fund. Additionally, FERIADO was selected to participate in the following film production labs: 2010 Coproduction Forum at the Huelva Film Festival (Spain), 2010 AustraLab at the FICValdivia (Chile), 2011 Oaxaca Screenwriting Lab (Mexico), 2011 PUENTES Workshop (Argentina & Spain).

The crew of FERIADO includes the participation of director of photography Magela Crosignani (RUTA DE LA LUNA, MOSQUITA y MARI), art director Roberto Frisone (CRÓNICAS, MONO CON GALLINAS), sound director Juan José Luzuriaga (QUÉ TAN LEJOS, MEJOR NO HABLAR DE CIERTAS COSAS). The main actors of the film are Juan Manuel Arregui y Andrés Paredes.
